About Toy Story & Buzz Lightyear
The Movie Toy Story 2continues sometime in the future, soon after the end of Toy Story. The boy Andy is setting off to cowboy camp – an annual treat for Sheriff Woody, Andy’s favourite toy. An accident causes a rip in Woody’s arm, and Andy leaves him at home instead. Woody is traumatised. Is this the end?
Woody’s suspicions are confirmed when a friend, Wheezy the Penguin, is thrown into a box for disposal by Andy’s mom. So he starts up a rescue mission with the help of Buster, the family dog. He is successful in saving Wheezy from his fate – but ends up in a sale box himself.
An interested buyer hears Woody’s inner voice box and becomes overjoyed. Unable to buy Woody, he steals him! Buzz attempts another rescue, it doesn’t work. But, he does spot the license plate; LZTYBRN.
A quick application to the “Speak ‘n Spell” and they work out that it stands for Al’s Toy Barn so they believe the thief is Al McWhiggin, the owner. The gang takes off to the depths of the city on a rescue mission.
In the meantime, Sheriff Woody wakes up to find himself in a glass box. After a little freak out session, he escapes, only to find he’s not alone, but in the company of a toy horse. Suddenly he’s ambushed by Jesse cowgirl and they meet another character; “Stinky Pete the Prospector”.
Confused at first, the others enlighten him by showing him the set of collectibles behind him. It turns out Woody himself is a rare doll, and completes an invaluable collection – a collection destined for a toy museum in Japan. He’s impressed, but still decides to leave, making Jesse quite upset.
However, his escape attempt is thwarted by the television suddenly turning on – was it sabotage?
By the way, these characters first appeared in the cast of a kinda kitschy, kinda cheesy early 1950s popular childrens’ TV puppet show called “Woody’s Roundup.”
After much adventure and excitement the gang finally makes it to Al’s Toy Barn.
Buzz is abducted by a second, uninitiated Buzz, who leads the gang on a mission to “defeat Emperor Zurg.“
